A little bit more about us...

Who We Are

We are people from the community working together to care for one another. We come from all faiths or no faith. Just people working to care for one another because we respond to God who cares for everyone.

Stewartstown Food Pantry grew out of a backpack ministry at Stewartstown United Methodist Church. For several years we supplied weekly backpacks, filled with food for the weekend, for families whose elementary age children received the school lunch program. When COVID hit, it became obvious that families needed help with food. We started a drive up pantry at the Church.  The pantry quickly outgrew the church and the backpack ministry. It moved to the current location in May of 2021. Former backpack recipients are invited to participate in the food pantry program.

What We Do

The Stewartstown Food Pantry provides supplemental food to anyone experiencing food insecurity, so they don’t have to choose between food and other necessities.  No one should have to make these choices.  Yet in 2025, more than 280 different households have frequented Stewartstown Food Pantry because they were faced with decisions such as these.

What's Different

We are a choice pantry.  Those in need enter the pantry and select food that they will use, in quantities based on their household size.  The pantry regularly stocks dairy products, frozen meats, fresh produce, and dry groceries such as cereals, pasta, and canned goods. We also offer personal and household items such as soap and laundry detergent when available.

Notes from our Neighbors

“As a single mom, food from the Stewartstown Food Pantry helped me feed my 4 children a healthy diet while I earned my college degree.”

“Our house served us well for 27 years, but after my husband became disabled, all the responsibility fell on me, the cost and the maintenance.  Saving money on groceries by coming to the food pantry helped us get by until we could downsize.  We sold our home and are moving into a trailer.  We will miss our big home, but it is what we have to do.  We greatly appreciate the assistance of the food pantry through this.”

“There are some weeks that I don’t know whether to pay a certain bill or get food, and this definitely helps.”

“I'm so thankful for the food pantry. They have helped out in so many ways especially with the struggle that we were having getting food.  I was running far away to try to find food not knowing there was one right here in Stewartstown. We are just so thankful that we are able to come here and get food.  My daughter loves coming to help and she loves that she can help pick out food.”
